Customization allows players to choose their own name, flag, and pattern. Choosing a color is not yet available as of v26.17.

Names

The default name consists of "Anon###" where # represents digits. As of v26.17, any player can choose a custom name before joining a match.

Names are not protected, and thus anyone is able to impersonate anyone else.

If you have the "Hidden Names" option enabled, all players' names will be replaced by randomly generated names.

Clans

Players can put a clan tag in front of their name in order to be a part of a clan. The clan tag takes the format of [XXXXX] MyName, where X are alphanumeric characters (numbers and letters). Clan tags can be 2 to 5 characters long.

Players in Team Games with the same clan tag will be put in the same team.

Clans can have their statistics, such as wins, and win/loss ratio tracked as a whole, and then compared.

While clans may have some structure, such as discord servers or other communities, anyone can take on any clan tag.

Name filter

Players cannot use certain names which include: swears, slurs, and other similar words.

If a player chooses such a name, their name will be replaced with one of the preset names, for example "NeedHugs", or "MakeFriends".

Territory Patterns

Patterns, or "skins" are cosmetic items that can be equipped and will change the look of your territory. Other players will be able to see your equipped pattern.

Patterns sometimes make it difficult to see team color, or borders between nations, and so, the options exists for them to be disabled in the User Settings.

Getting Patterns

Patterns can be gained by multiple methods:

  • Being a notable figure in the community
  • Contributing to the game's development
  • Creating a pattern
  • Purchasing them
  • Winning a giveaway in the discord
  • Winning an OpenFront Tournament
  • Winning a Content Creator Giveaway

Flags

Players can choose one out of the many flags which the game offers. Most flags are of countries, but there are also many outliers, such as the UN flag.

If you have the "Hidden Names" option enabled, all players' flags will be replaced by a generic purple person icon.
