Communication in Openfront allows players and nations to send each other emojis, predefined chat messages, and attack intents in order to plan for attack, defense, and ultimately the win.
Sending Emojis
Players can send emojis to other humans or nations. Emojis sent between humans has no effect on the game itself. Sending certain emojis to a nation can affect the relationship score with them:

Emojis Sent by Nations
The table below lists game events to which a nation might respond with an emoji, and the possible emojis they might send. Note that a nation is not guaranteed to send an emoji in response to an event; many of them have a random chance of being sent, and they're limited to sending emojis no faster than once per 300 ticks.
