OpenFront
More actions
OpenFront (also stylized as Openfront, or OF for short) is an indie Free and Open Source real-time strategy IO browser game.
Gameplay
The main goal of the game is to control over 80% of the non-fallout Terrain.
This is achieved by capturing wilderness, and fighting Bots, Nations, and players.
Players may make Alliances, launch Nukes, and create Buildings, and Units.
Development
Openfront started as a Fork of Warfront, though it has since changed a huge amount, with many more features than the original.
It is mostly developed by volunteer contributors through the platform GitHub, though many discussions take place through Discord. The game is led by the fork's original creator, Evan, and several team leads.
The wider community also participates in creating the game by creating patterns, music, content (such as YouTube videos), and furthermore by creating bug reports, and feature suggestions.
If you would like to participate in the game's development, visit the OpenFront's GitHub page.
Forks of OpenFront
Because of the game's sizeable popularity gained throughout 2025, many developers have tried to expand on OpenFront's gameplay by adding new features, changing the game's aesthetics, and more. As a FOSS game, this is allowed, though the license has slightly changed ever since October 2025, now requiring all forks to explicitly state that they are based on OpenFront.
